Multiverse is powered by libgit2, a portable library implementation of Git, the powerful distributed source control system, and inherits its revolutionary features such as compact history, natural data de-duplication, cryptographic data-integrity and SSH/HTTPS internet network protocol. In addition, Multiverse unlocks interesting workflow features such as alternate storage timelines, branching, history-as-a-feature, collaborative work capabilities and publishing.
Multiverse was introduced at SIGGRAPH 2015 following a technical poster published at SIGGRAPH ASIA 2015. In 2016 we also introduced Milliways, a high-performance on-disk tree-based key-value store used in Multiverse as a pluggable back-end to libgit2. The Multiverse backend technology is released as open source under the permissive Apache License 2.0.
Powerful plug-in integrations of the Multiverse technology are available for Autodesk Maya, SideFX Houdini and The Foundry Katana. Production companies interested in support services are welcome to contact us.
Multiverse — Key Features
Save an Alembic file and then save more iterations of your work on top of it. Create parallel branches. Roll back changes... whatever you can do with Git you can do in the Multiverse.
Uses native Git ∆ delta compression by design. Its natural data de-duplication works across frames and across the whole history of the Multiverse.
Guaranteed by design: any data corruption is immediately known. Uses unique cryptographic hashes on the content.
